The Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN) is an organization in the field of parenteral and enteral nutrition and promotes basic research, clinical research, advanced education, organization of consensus statements about clinical care and quality control.
Dietitians can join IAPEN and help advance clinical nutrition in India. We recommend dietitians to complete the RD certification offered by Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) before participating in lifelong learning initiative of IAPEN. The RD certification by IDA will give enough confidence for self learning and help master advanced clinical nutrition.
IAPEN is offering various special services for promoting dietitians in lifelong learning. .
A Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree in any life science branch containing "Biochemistry" as one basic subject with laboratory can join the IAPEN lifelong learning courses. Our executive council members have clearly mentioned this criteria while preparing the course modules. The IAPEN Lifelong Learning Initiative provides stimulating, congenial, and varied opportunities designed specifically for lifelong learners in advanced clinical nutrition research. In order to promote life long learning in basic and advanced clinical nutrition and to facilitate the academic pursuits of more number of clinical nutritionists, doctors, dieticians from the educational institutions, hospitals and health care settings, IAPEN announces various distance learning certificate courses.
Lifelong learning courses
The course contains, nutrition support module, enteral module and parenteral module. The certificate course in enteral and parenteral nutrition will help in preparing medical & nutrition professionals to understand the basics principles in clinical nutrition, enteral nutrition, parenteral nutrition & important of comprehensive care/team approach in preventing iatrogenic malnutrition in hospitalized critically ill patients.
The above certificate courses provides an intensive, evidence-based, self-paced learning program that provides practitioners the latest information on implementing nutrition care in the health care settings. The Course assisted by a IAPEN Nutrition Support Certification Board of IAPEN's and experienced critical care clinical nutritionists and dietitians from across the country, the program provides a balance of background information, current research and practical information. The first two modules of the above courses will be enteral and parenteral nutrition and remaining modules will focus on specialized areas.

Dietitians who are interested in OBG can join this course. The certificate course in OBG is exclusively prepared based on the syllabus of M.D. in OBG offered by various universities throughout India. The course contains information which was not being included in M.D, OBG or MBBS or any OBG specialized course in India. Interested gynecologists can join this course for learning advanced EBNP (Evidence Based Nutrition Practice).
Lifelong learning in advanced clinical nutrition
The IAPEN Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (ICNSC™) credential identifies you as a qualified nutrition support provider. It is the most widely accepted, visible nutrition support certification with recognition both nationally and internationally. This certification is started in India for promoting lifelong learning. After successful completion of ICNSC examination, if the candidate has an IAPEN life membership, then IAPEN will directly issue "IAPEN Certified Expert Clinical Nutritionist" or "IAPEN Certified Expert Nutrition Support Clinician" after signing one agreement.
The agreement contains the rules and regulations for holding the expert certificate issued by IAPEN. Expert certification has to be renewed every two years after earning 25 credits. The credits are similar to CME credits issued by Medical Council of India. These credits can be earned by attending conferences, seminars, writing online examinations, completing online international ESPEN modules or ASPEN modules or publication in IAPEN journals, development of modules or public health services etc. Suppose if 25 credits were not acquired within two years, the expert certification will be automatically cancelled. Expert dietitians can also join IAPEN quality group which is working in area of developing modules and toolkits for Indian hospital and healthcare settings and help advance clinical nutrition in India.
A dedicated team of life members, who are interested in developing perioperative care guidelines and to improve recovery through research, audit education and implementation of evidence-based practice have joined Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) expert group of IAPEN. Interested dietitians can join this group and contribute towards advanced clinical nutrition.

We strongly feel that Dietitians working in hospitals should get PhD degree. IAPEN has collaborated with various universities for helping students in getting PhD degree within 4 to 5 years duration. We help in selection of guide, selection of research topic, execution of the work, publication, thesis preparation, formatting and final submission.
